Sentichron

CLICK HERE FOR A QUICK GUIDE

Sentichron turns a spreadsheet of feedback into an interactive sentiment dashboard. Everything runs in your browser and your file is never uploaded to a server.

1. Prepare your data: Your spreadsheet (saved as .csv, .xls, or .xlsx) needs at least two columns: date (when the feedback was given – any common date format works) and text (the actual feedback, comment, or review). Optional columns Sentichron will use if you have them: sentiment (a label like positive, negative, neutral, or a numeric score) and author (who wrote the feedback).

2. Start on the home page: When you open Sentichron, you will see two tabs:

  • Upload file — drag and drop your CSV/Excel file, or click to browse
  • Paste data — copy rows straight from a spreadsheet and paste them in

If you have a previous session saved, a “Resume your last session” banner will appear at the top.

3. Validate your columns: After uploading, Sentichron shows the Data integrity check screen. What to do here:

  1. Check the Column mapping section. Sentichron tries to auto-detect your columns, but you can change them with the dropdowns.
  2. Watch the Date recognition percentage. If it is below 80%, double-check that the correct column is selected as the date column.
  3. Pick your Sentiment colours if you want to customise the chart palette.
  4. Review the First 5 rows preview to make sure dates and text look right.
  5. Click Confirm & Analyse.

4. Explore the dashboard: The dashboard has two main views.

  • Waffle chart: Each colored square is one piece of feedback. Hover over any square to see the date, author, and text. Click a square to open a side panel showing all feedback from that day. Use the cell size slider to make the squares larger or smaller.
  • Trend chart: Shows sentiment over time. Use the dropdown to switch between the waffle and trend views.

5. Filter your data: At the top of the dashboard, you can search for keywords in the feedback text or author names, pick a start and end date, or toggle which sentiments appear using the positive/neutral/negative checkboxes.

6. Add landmarks: Landmarks mark important events — a product launch, a policy change, a PR crisis — so you can see how sentiment shifted around them. To add one, click the Landmarks button and enter a title, date, and optional note. You can also pick a colour. The landmark appears as a diamond in the waffle chart. Click a landmark diamond to edit or remove it.

    7. Switch to table view: Click the Table icon to see the raw feedback rows. This is useful for scanning text or finding a specific comment.

    8. Present or export: Click the fullscreen button in the top-right corner to enter presentation mode. Click the download icon next to a chart to save it as a PNG image.

    9. Start over: Click New dataset in the header to upload a different file. Your current session is saved automatically, so you can resume it later from the home page.

    Tips

    • Sentichron works best with up to around 100,000 rows.
    • If your dates are not recognised, make sure the date column is selected correctly on the validation screen.
    • If you paste data, include the header row and use tabs, commas, or semicolons as separators.
